Calling, authority, and the gospel · Galatians series · GAL01_2

When a voice sounds convincing, how do we know we can trust its message?

In GAL01_2, Who Sent Paul?, we return to Galatians 1:1. Paul identifies Jesus Christ and God the Father as the source of his apostolic commission.

That authority serves the good news of grace, peace, and Christ’s self-giving for our sins (Galatians 1:3–4).

Teachers today are responsible to serve that apostolic message faithfully. We test their teaching—including this lesson—by Scripture.

One practical response: take one teaching you hear today, bring it back to the passage, and read it in context.

Next in the study: Why does Paul name the resurrection when explaining his authority?

  1. This is all very well done, Nathan. I think without the authority of the resurrection, it’s all for not. The resurrection fuels the difference between what you and I believe and live out and following some other religion. It’s a difference maker. Great word!

    1. Thank you so much, Rainer. Yeeesss! It is a difference maker. Without the authority of the resurrection, I’m left without hope for redemption and land in this state of… trying to rescue myself from what I can’t overcome. But because Christ is risen, my hope rests in Him. Sin and death don’t have the final word.
