For I give you sound teaching | P4-V2

A Father’s Instruction

Proverbs 4; I die daily devotional.

1 Hear, O sons, the instruction of a father,
And give attention that you may gain understanding,
For I give you sound teaching;
Do not abandon my instruction.

When I was a son to my father,
Tender and the only son in the sight of my mother,

What I perceive from the Holy Spirit blessing me with sound teaching is principles of which increase my understanding kingdom knowledge, how I ought to conduct myself in this world, and as the understanding of such principles by wisdom set in, the process of discipline over time will equip my spirit with power to overcome through faith in the knowledge of the truth against that which means to steal, kill, and devour my soul—the ruler of this world—1 John 2:15 Do not love the world nor the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world. 17 The world is passing away, and also its lusts; but the one who does the will of God lives forever.)

And so what does wisdom teach you upon learning the instruction of God our Father?

Wisdom instructs me … “…do not abandon the instruction of these principles” that manifest by my obedience to the law of faith, liberty (I think) is governed by God through the inspiration of His Word, that which guides me—and I believe you as well, reader—in the way out of darkness as lights that shine for those asleep in the darkness of this world; if you’re familiar with The CHOSEN series, in season 2 (without spoiling too much) you’ll hear one of the apostles refer to people without Jesus as “sleepers”. There are sleepers that are desperate to be awakened from their sleep to see with hope that only make sense in the revelation of Jesus Christ, souls’ truly born again, or who I might regard as … “the true-borns“; there are those who might claim to be awakened although still very much asleep, and on the brink of death, wolves disguised as sheep in the midst of the herd.

COMMENTARY

Chapter 4

Matthew Henry (P4-V2) Commentary
II. For what end they were written (v. 2-4), not to gain a reputation to the author, or strengthen his interest among his subjects, but for the use and benefit of all that in every age and place will govern themselves by these dictates and study them closely. This book will help us,

  • 1. To form right notions of things, and to possess our minds with clear and distinct ideas of them, that we may know wisdom and instruction, that wisdom which is got by instruction, by divine revelation, may know both how to speak and act wisely ourselves and to give instruction to others.
  • 2. To distinguish between truth and falsehood, good and evil-to perceive the words of understanding, to apprehend them, to judge of them, to guard against mistakes, and to accommodate what we are taught to ourselves and our own use, that we may discern things that differ and not be imposed upon, and may approve things that are excellent and not lose the benefit of them, as the apostle prays, Phil. 1:10.
