Read Colossians 3:5-11

5 Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. 6 Because of these, the wrath of God is coming.[a] 7 You used to walk in these ways, in the life you once lived. 8 But now you must also rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips. 9 Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices 10 and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator. 11 Here there is no Gentile or Jew, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave or free, but Christ is all, and is in all.

In Chapter 2 Paul declared that the written code, regulations, and human commands/traditions were dead. They did not apply to the Christian. Now, in chapter 3, we are encouraged not to act in ways that are unpleasant to God.

Our old nature of sin and our new nature in Christ do not mix. They are oil and water, light and darkness. The sin nature that once defined our life is the very reason the wrath of God is coming.

Get rid of it.

Our new self is renewed by growing in knowledge of our Creator. In that knowledge we will discover there is no meaningful difference in race (Greek or Jew), denomination (circumcised or uncircumcised), nationality (barbarian or Scythian), & socioeconomic status (slave or free). Christ has made us all equal. We are adopted heirs to God’s inheritance with Jesus Christ.

What prejudices do you have? Does fear or anger grip you at the sight or mention of Republicans, Democrats, Atheists, Baptists, Rich, Poor, Californians, Texans, etc…. Confess those prejudices to God and your trusted Christian friends and ask for healing (James 5:16) and a renewed mind (Romans 12:2).
