Getting Help Without Losing Yourself

Using AI to create, learn, and build with discernment.

Keep your voice. Ask for useful help. Examine what comes back. Finish something worth using.

I have been learning by building Time For Providence and Gold Vein, asking for help, responding to what comes back, and making changes myself. Sometimes the result has been useful immediately. Sometimes I have had to say, “That looks way too AI.” Those experiences are where this course begins.

These four lessons are for curious beginners who want useful help without handing over their meaning or judgment. Work through real writing and planning tasks, practice checking a flawed answer, and finish one small project you can use outside the conversation.

Included with Practice: $19 USD per month. Practice renews monthly until canceled and includes the existing Study and Practice resources. Current Practice members do not need to buy this course separately. Study alone does not include this course.

Four complete written lessons, worked examples, reusable prompts, exercises with answer keys, a working notebook, and a final-project review. Allow roughly 90-115 minutes for reading and exercises, plus time to use your final project. Work at your own pace. No videos, live sessions, personal coaching, or certificate are included.

01 / Keep Your Voice
Revise your own writing or finish an AI-assisted draft while preserving your meaning.

02 / Ask for Useful Help
Turn a real task into a clear brief and a usable result.

03 / Question the Answer
Check claims against evidence and protect private information.

04 / Put It to Work
Finish a useful deliverable, apply it, and learn from the result.

A short sample: when the draft is close

There have also been times when the AI’s writing was close to what I wanted. I copied it, pasted it into my draft, and kept writing. I changed a phrase, removed something I wouldn’t say, or added what was missing.

Sometimes it helps to have something in front of you to respond to. You read a sentence and think, “Yes, that’s close, but here’s what I mean.” The revision happens right there in your own writing.

Before sharing it, I still need to ask whether it says what I mean and whether everything it claims is true. A paragraph can sound like me and still need correction.

Before you join

What does Practice include?

This complete four-lesson written course, the Study collection “Before You Answer,” and the existing Practice field guide, field notes, discernment guide, and small-group discussion guide. The course has no scheduled video release, live instruction, private coaching, or certification.

Is this a one-time course purchase?

No. This course is included in Practice at $19 USD per month, renewing monthly until canceled. Course and library access are tied to an active Practice membership. You may cancel renewal through Memberships & donations; access continues through the paid period. An email newsletter subscription is separate from paid membership.

I already have a membership. Do I need another?

If you have Practice, sign in with the WordPress.com account used at checkout. No additional purchase is needed. Study alone does not unlock this course. If you move from Study to Practice, review and cancel the old Study renewal separately to avoid paying for both; this site does not automatically prorate or migrate tiers.

Do I need technical experience or a paid AI account?

No technical background is expected, and this curriculum does not require a paid AI plan. You need access to a text-chat AI tool and your own place to write. Provider accounts, usage limits, and any optional provider fees are separate. The lessons teach transferable habits rather than a particular product interface.

Will my exercise answers be stored here?

No. Keep your work in your own notebook or document. There is no assignment upload, automatic progress tracking, grading service, or certificate. The worked examples and answer keys support self-directed practice.

How does faith shape the teaching?

Truthfulness, stewardship, care for others, and responsibility shape the exercises. Scripture is read in context and is not treated as a source of promises about what an AI tool will do. Membership pays for prepared educational resources and the work of the site. The gospel remains the free gift of God’s grace in Jesus Christ.

Educational material for personal learning, not professional advice or a promise of income, accuracy, or particular results. Examples identified as fictional are not event announcements, partner offers, or testimonials. No local code, gift, or pass is included with membership.
