Behind the Scenes at Watermark

Coming at you live from the trenches… or should I say, the drain lines.

You might not catch it at first glance, but if you look closely at the mirror in this shot, you’ll see the aftermath of an unforgettable moment. Pro tip: when using a Milwaukee air pressure gun to unclog a sink drain, don’t forget to cover the overflow hole… like I did. 🙃

I wish I had captured a picture of the carnage before cleanup—sludge everywhere. Then again, maybe it’s better I didn’t. For the sake of anyone with a weak stomach, just know it was gnarly.

See that finger pointing? That’s me, calling out the battlefield. 💥 That mirror took a hit. And once again, our janitorial team came through like heroes, cleaning up after the whirlwind of tasks I often jump between. I can’t say enough how grateful I am for them.

Lately, I’ve been wrapping up ED:3 (Equipped Disciple) and stepping into Re:gen—and moments like this really do keep me grounded. You can be in the Word, lost in worship, praying through the depths of the soul… and then boom—hit in the face with a sludge explosion. It’s humbling.

And honestly? It’s kind of awesome. Not in a sarcastic way. I mean it.

Ministry is messy. Life is real. Jesus is better.

Reflect + Respond:

  • When was the last time a messy moment reminded you of your humanity?
  • How does your daily work—mundane or messy—serve a greater purpose?
  • Are you willing to be interrupted to serve others—even when it costs comfort?

Scripture Meditation:
“Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men.”
—Colossians 3:23 (NASB 1995)
